Rather than natural cures there are remedies that can bring down the disease. These remedies can be had along with the course prescribed by the doctor for the diseases of the kidney and urinary bladder.  Disease of the kidney and urinary bladder are closely related. The infection of one can lead to the infection of the other. So it is best advised to consult a doctor before trying any homemade solution. Symptoms like polyuria, dysuria, hematuria, burning sensation etc are closely related with the infection of the kidney and the bladder.  Natural cures include:

  1. Drinking plenty of fluids. This includes drinking water enough to produce 2-2.5 litres of water every day.
  2. Cranberry juice is found to be an excellent cure for kidney related infections. The reason is that it doesnot allow infection causing bacteria to stick to the walls lining the urinary tract as it flushes them out. People suffering from diabetes could be at risk while consuming  cranberry juice.
  3. Banana Stem juice is also found to be an excellent remedy. It is believed that it has the property to dissolve kidney stones and prevent infection of the kidney and the bladder.

Urinary Bladder Cancer

Harmful growth in the urinary bladder causes cancer of the bladder. Cancer of the bladder results in unwanted growth of cells or the cells multiply dangerously. Transistional cell carcinoma is the most common type of cell cancer . Symptoms of cancer in bladder includes the urge to urinate often without any results, polyuria, blood while urinating ,pain during urination and others. Most of these symptoms are also associated with other diseases of the kidney and bladder . So a detailed biopsy is necessarily in determining the disease.  Urine cytology and trans urethral cytoscopy test are conducted to determine the disease.

The major cause of cancer in the bladder is attributed to smoking. Reports indicate that persons who are active smokers are prone to cancer of the bladder and in cancer generally.

Fever and Kidney Infection

  • Fever and kidney affection are related .some case of high fever maybe related with the infection of the kidneys. The fever may subsidise or may increase as the disease is left untreated.  Along with fever, headache, nausea, vomiting may also accompany, a mild fever is usually seen at the onset of kidney infection. High fever – body temperature of 101 F (38.3 C) or greater
  • Shaking chills
  • Night sweats
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Confusion

In infants and young children, signs and symptoms of kidney infection may include:

  • Irritability

In older adults, mental changes, such as confusion, sometimes are the only signs of kidney infection.

Diet in The Prevention of Kidney Infection

Infection of kidney and urinary bladder are closely related. The infection of one could lead to another and it should be carefully monitored. Medications at proper interval can cure the patients and should be done so. Products containing probiotic bacteria may be consumed as a preventive long term measure.

These include fermented milk products. Usage of cranberry juice and blueberry juice may also be consumed as a long term measure. Maintenance of hygiene is essential as most of the related infections are caused by harmful bacteria like E.coli.  Maintaining a healthy life style and hygiene is is essential to prevent disease in general.

Kidney Stones

Dissolved minerals in the urine concentrate in the kidneys to form as solid concretions to form kidney stones. The proper medical term for the disease is renal calculi . Bladder stones  can also be found in the urinary tract and bladder. nephrolithiasis ,urolithiasis and Ureterolithiasis refers to the condition where one can find stone in kidney, urinary baldder and ureter which connects the kidney and the urinary bladder.

Usually in normal conditions such stones leave the body while urinating . If the stones grow in sufficient size  above 2 millimeter then they can obstruct the flow of urine.  This can cause the muscles to try and force the stone out of the baldder which causes considerable pain.  Due to this condition the renal pelvis and the upper ureter dilate or stretch causing a lot of discomfort.

This situation causes considerable pain in the groin region and areas related to the passage of urine. The excess force applied can damage the linings of the urinary tract which can cause bleeding which can be seen with the naked eye.  The major type of kidney stone is calcium oxalate stones and uric acid stones. In people abnormalism in their metabolic activities  calcium phosphate and cystine stones are seen. If there is urinary infection struvite stones are seen all though this is very rare.

Causes of Kidney Infection

Kidney infection is caused by bacteria which makes its way in to the urinary tract. E. coli and Enterococcus faecalis are the most common organisms which cause urinary infection. Coliforms and enterococci  are the major reason for infections occurring from hospitals. Cystis and prostatitis are the precursor to Pyelonephritis . Usually the infection starts as cystis and prostatitis.

Other causes include defects in kidneys, urinary tract painful flow of urine due to kidney stones ,kidney stones, nephrostomy,  pregnancy damaged bladder and in men prostate disease can lead to Pyelonephritis.Other major cause of the disease is Diabetes Mellitus. Patients suffering from Diabetes Mellitus suffer from frequent urination leading to the damage of the urinary bladder. Frequent urination damages the wall lining the urinary bladder leading to increased rate of infection.  Change in sexual partner also leads to the infection of the urinary tract. This is high especially in females as multiple partners lead to the spread of infection from one person to another very quickly.

Usage of spermicides is also cited as one of the major reasons as this destroys the walls lining the fallopian tubules which weaken the tract leading to increased risk of infection. Genetics also contribute to this disease. Other causes include inadequate intake of fluids, irregular eating habits etc. In most cases of infection bacteria is the major cause of infection and other ailments of the kidney and the urinary tract only increases the rate of infection.

Treatment for Kidney Infection

Bacteria is the main cause of kidney infection. The most efficient and reliable form of treatment is by the usage of antibiotics. Oral treatment is sufficient in case of non severe incidents.  In acute cases intravenous treatment is necessary. Intravenous treatment may be discontinued after the symptoms subsidies. Then normal oral treatment can be prescribed.  Antibiotic used includes

  1. Fluoroquinolones (e.g. ciprofloxacin)
  2. Beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g. amoxicillin or cephalosporin), trimethoprimr (or co-trimoxazole).

Aminoglycosides are not generally used as they are highly toxic. These are sometimes used in the initial stages and discontinued thereafter.

An acute case of this disease requires Type IV hydration and IV antibiotic treatment and no time should be wasted in providing the same as it can be fatal.

Initial course of medicinal intake includes ciprofloxacin IV 400mg. The treatment may then be continued using, ampicillin IV 2g and gentamicin IV 1mg/kg. In pregnant patients ampicillin/gentamicin combination is preferred.  Pregnant women should take extra care while being administered antibiotics.

Intravenous input and vasodilatation which increases the urine flow is practised in patients who are too unwell and septic.  Surgery may be required in extreme cases to stop the recurring effects of this disease. Large amount of fluid intakes are also advised.
